Dog Training
I have loved animals all my life and have always had a special connection with dogs. I got involved with Canine Companions for Independence, as a volunteer puppy raiser for service dogs in 2010 and loved it. I raised puppies from 8 weeks old until they were a year old, teaching them 30 commands and socializing them until they went to advanced training to learn specialized skills.
I loved seeing my dogs succeed and help others in such an amazing way to improve their lives. I volunteered with other service dog programs as well, training rescue dogs for soldiers with PTSD and diabetic alert dogs for kids. I learned so much from the dogs I raised and was intrigued by their different personalities. Every puppy or dog I raised had a different personality and temperament. They were all being trained for the same goal; to become a service dog, but I had to adjust my training techniques to fit the dog. It was challenging but I loved figuring out how to communicate with the dogs and it made me want to make a career out of working with them.
In 2017 I started working as an assistant trainer at a daycare and boarding facility, moving up to a trainer position when I got my CPDT-KA certification in 2018. Over my time there I worked with hundreds of dogs. I taught a broad range of classes, from basic obedience to specialized classes that included agility, nose work, competition obedience (called rally), learning using fun and games, off-leash training and Canine Good Citizens classes. I also did private one-on-one trainings with owners and dogs both on and off property. We did behavioral assessments for aggression and I worked to rehabilitate dogs with bite histories. I gained an enormous amount of knowledge and experience form my time there.
The world of dog training is constantly changing, and we are learning new things every day in order to better understand our four-legged companions. Dogs communicate in a different way than we do, but there is so much we can do to understand them and build a great relationship with them. If you pay attention, your dog will tell you everything you need to know about how they feel, what they want and what they need to be happy and secure.
I love what I do and welcome new challenges. My training utilizes positive reward systems, which help to deepen the bond between owners and their pets. We all want to be able to have a good relationship with our dogs, enjoy having people over, and take them places because they are part of our family.
I will always put 100 % into making that happen for my customers. I will build your program around the goals you have as an owner, and we will find the things your dog loves and use those to train them. I look forward to meeting you and your pup!
